What’s the strangest thing people do when they drive?
That’s the question Times transportation writer Laura J. Nelson asked on Twitter on Wednesday morning. She got some startling—but probably not surprising—responses:
—Shaving.
—Playing musical instruments.
—Applying makeup.
—Eating Vietnamese noodles.
—Playing video games.
—Reading a paperback book.
In some ways, it is a perennial question in Los Angeles: Readers Digest recently posted some responses to the same question (including playing the piano!), and this year, Times columnist Steve Lopez wrote about a potential solution.
Law enforcement officials have focused more attention in recent years on cracking down on “distracted drivers”—including those who text and talk on phones.
