Earthquake off Southern California coast upgraded to magnitude 5

An earthquake off the coast of California on Tuesday evening was upgraded by the U.S. Geological Survey to magnitude 5.
The quake was originally reported as a magnitude 4.6 about 152 miles southwest of Catalina Island.
The temblor occurred at 6:24 p.m. Pacific time. The depth was recorded at 8.1 miles.
No damage was reported, and it appears not to have been felt on the mainland.
