Tens of thousands expected at L.A. Pride parade today

Thousands of people gathered in West Hollywood Sunday morning for the L.A. Pride parade.
Organizers said they were expecting 400,000 spectators and participants.
The parade was scheduled to start at 11 a.m. and run west on Santa Monica Boulevard from Crescent Heights Boulevard to Robertson Boulevard.
It features 130 entrants, including grocery stores, banks, politicians, television news stations and advocacy groups.
Singer Demi Lovato is the grand marshal. The parade will also feature the two couples -- Paul Katami and Jeff Zarrillo, and Kris Perry and Sandy Stier -- who were the plaintiffs in the lawsuit that overturned California’s ban on same-sex marriage.
The following streets are closed to traffic and not scheduled to reopen 5 p.m. Sunday:
-- Santa Monica Boulevard between Fairfax Avenue and Doheny Drive.
-- All streets one block north and south of Santa Monica Boulevard between Fairfax Avenue and La Peer Drive.
-- Crescent Heights Boulevard between Romaine Street and Fountain Avenue.
A free shuttle known as the Pride Ride was ferrying people to the festivities.
The parade has been held for 44 of the last 45 years.
