Man questioned in Inglewood shooting knew victim, police say

A person of interest questioned in connection with an Inglewood shooting that left two dead is believed to have had a relationship with one of the victims, police said Wednesday.

The man taken into custody Wednesday afternoon in Compton was detained for questioning but not arrested, Inglewood police said.

Three people were critically injured in the Tuesday afternoon shooting at an apartment complex in the 11700 block of Crenshaw Boulevard, police said.

The two women, identified by police as Crystallyn Nguyen, 18, and Dora Lee Dawson, 68, were taken to the hospital, where they died Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

A third victim, Dawson’s grandson, Datwan Henderson, 22, was in critical condition with two gunshot wounds, police said.

Investigators believe an altercation occurred when a man approached Henderson at the back of his residence. The man produced a gun and chased Henderson into his apartment, where he shot Henderson, Dawson and Nguyen, police said.

Police said they believe the man had had a relationship with Henderson’s girlfriend, Nguyen.

A fourth person was treated for minor injuries and released at the scene, Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Tony Akins said.

Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and are working with the families and local clergy on grief ceremonies.
