A man arrested on suspicion of domestic violence died after hanging himself in an Orange County jail, police said Saturday.
The man is 49-year-old Daniel Oppenheimer of La Habra, said investigator Kelly Keyes of the Orange County coroner’s office.
Oppenheimer was arrested Friday morning by La Habra police after a woman reported a domestic dispute, according to a release from the La Habra Police Department.
Oppenheimer was alone in his jail cell and was found hanging and unconscious, police said.
He was taken to St. Jude Hospital in Fullerton, where he was pronounced dead.
The exact cause of Oppenheimer’s death will be determined following an autopsy and investigation, Keyes said.
The Orange County district attorney’s office is leading the investigation -- standard practice for all custody-related deaths.
