Man held in beating, sexual assault

An Oxnard man was arrested on suspicion of knocking his wife unconscious in front of their two small children and sexually assaulting her, police said Thursday.
The woman was being treated a local hospital, where she told investigators that her estranged husband, had attacked her Wednesday at her Oxnard home, Det. Luis McArthur of the Oxnard Police Department said.
The man “had been previously convicted on a domestic violence charge and served time in prison,” McArthur said in a statement.
Police said the man was being held at the Ventura County jail on suspicion of crimes including felony sexual assault, inflicting corporal injury on a spouse and willful cruelty to a child. Bail was set at $500,000.
