Woman hit, killed by car in Santa Ana accident identified

A woman who died after being hit by a car while crossing a street in Santa Ana on Thursday night has been identified, police said.
Maria Vancinijavier, 51, was struck in the 1600 block of West 1st Street around 8:15 p.m. by the driver of a 2001 Volvo, authorities said.
Vancinijavier was wearing dark clothing and the driver tried to avoid her, according to Santa Ana police. The driver also called 911 and stayed at the scene, police said.
Vancinijavier was transported to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.
