Los Angeles County coroner officials have identified the 17-year-old teenager who died in a car crash in Bellflower over the weekend.
Daniel Solis, of Downey, was killed when the car he and four other passengers were riding in hit a curb and a wrought-iron fence, rolled over and crashed into a tree, according to authorities.
The crash was reported a little after 2 a.m. on Rosecrans Avenue and Lakewood Boulevard, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Authorities said the driver was traveling east on Rosecrans at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle. Four of the five passengers were ejected from the vehicle during the crash.
The driver and passengers were all taken to nearby hospitals. Solis was later pronounced dead. It’s unknown if the passengers were wearing seat belts. A traffic investigator with the Sheriff’s Department could not be reached for comment.
KABC-TV Channel 7 reported that the driver, Eddie Solis, 22, the brother of Daniel Solis, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Arrest records show a 22-year-old man by the same name was arrested around 2:20 a.m. on the same day of the crash.
The incident remains under investigation.
