Los Angeles County coroner officials identified the man who died in a vehicle crash at Terminal Island over the weekend.
Eugene B. Gendel, 65, of Long Beach, died in the crash, which was reported about 2:34 p.m. Saturday not far from the eastern end of the Vincent Thomas Bridge, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Traffic investigators said Gendel was driving his SUV, heading east on the Seaside Freeway, when his vehicle rear-ended a big rig at Navy Way.
Gendel was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only person inside the SUV. The driver of the big rig was not injured.
