A 25-year-old Northridge man was killed early Saturday when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a concrete pole on the 118 Freeway in Mission Hills, authorities said.
The accident was reported about 2:45 a.m. on the westbound side of the freeway, east of Sepulveda Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver first veered into a guardrail and then struck the pole. He was pronounced dead at the scene, said CHP Officer Monica Posada. No other vehicles were involved in the crash. The cause is under investigation.
The crash prompted a SigAlert, closing two lanes of the westbound freeway, as well as the transition road from the north and southbound San Diego Freeway. The lanes reopened at about 6:30 a.m.
