A 27-year-old Long Beach man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the fatal beating of a West Point graduate and U.S. Army Ranger last month at a downtown club, authorities said Monday.
Los Angeles Police arrested Steven Hong on July 2 in the 7300 block of Central Avenue. He was charged with murder on July 5 by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.
Hong has pleaded not guilty to one count of murder and was being held in lieu of $1-million bail, according Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department records.
His attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.
The defendant is accused of the June 2 assault on Albert Song, 24, who was out celebrating with a friend at the Icon Ultra Lounge at 1248 S. Figueroa St. when they got into a fight.
Sources familiar with the investigation said the break in the case came from clues provided through social media.
Song died of his injuries on June 3 at a local hospital. The U.S. Army 1st Lieutenant Song grew up in Cerritos and graduated from Whitney High School before going on to West Point.
