Firefighters make progress against brush fire near Fillmore

Firefighters in Ventura County on Tuesday evening stopped the forward progress of a brush fire that had burned about 60 acres.
The Condor fire was burning in rugged terrain Tuesday evening as crews were cutting lines around the perimeter, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.
The blaze broke out shortly before 4 p.m. east of Fillmore near Highway 126, fire officials said.
Earlier Tuesday, helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft made repeated assaults on the flames as they burned across light vegetation.
Fire officials said winds were not a factor and that crews were planning to work through the night to fully contain the blaze.
“We’re fairly confident,” department spokesman Bill Nash told The Times on Tuesday afternoon.
