Readers React: The solution to LAUSD’s dress-code-fight: uniforms

To the editor: I can remember my own silly “Flashdance”-inspired outfits in high school consisting of rolled-up pink sweatpants, ripped T-shirts and red high heels. I get it — before I became a bloated, gray-haired mid-lifer, I too was “expressing myself.” (“Red spaghetti straps kept a girl out of school and now there’s a review of L.A.’s dress codes,” Feb. 22)

However, this is public school we’re talking about, not fashion camp. As a mom of a bunch of kids, I would like to see less focus during the academic day on clothes, make-up, hair and phones and more on learning and socializing with peers in a safe and stimulating environment.

The argument between the Los Angeles Unified School District and a student who was removed from class for wearing an outfit deemed too revealing is a total waste of time. Maybe all students should wear some kind of uniform.

After school is dismissed, go home and change into whatever clothing pleases you. Even superheroes change outfits.
