Fountain Valley
The Tiburon North Homeowners Assn., representing 144 families in Fountain
Valley, objects to the Laguna Beach County Water District’s effort to
drill a well in Fountain Valley near our homes, in the back of the Kmart
parking lot.
The water district has not held one meeting in Fountain Valley for this
project. We are expected to attend a meeting at their offices in Laguna
Beach at 5 p.m. on a workday. Most of our residents cannot drive to South
Orange County for the meeting and should not have to leave their jobs
early to participate.
Our elected officials and our community have been given very short notice
regarding this meeting -- 10 days over the spring vacation, Passover and
Easter holidays.
The Kmart Corp. has rightly objected to the project in its parking lot,
and has significant environmental and economic concerns.
The cities of Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, Santa Ana and the Mesa
Consolidated and Orange County water districts have expressed strong
concerns and objections, which appear to have been rejected or ignored.
We thank them for recognizing the many flaws of this project.
The Tiburon North Homeowners Assn. urges the Laguna Beach County Water
District to:
* Give the public more time and consideration regarding this project;
* Review the cumulative effects a project like this will have on the
region and the environmental concerns presented by water industry
experts;
* Allow for the due process of the public;
* Consider more reasonable alternatives to this project, which, if
allowed to go forth, will have a negative effect on Orange County’s
precious ground-water basin; and
* Meet your obligation as a public agency not to violate the public’s
trust and act responsibly.
This is written on behalf of the Tiburon North Homeowners Assn. Board of
Directors.
