Jimmy Pelzel, a junior on the UC Irvine men’s volleyball team, has
been named Molten Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the
Week.
It is the second Player of the Week accolade for Pelzel this
season. He was also honored on Jan. 13.
Pelzel led UCI in wins over No. 15 UC Santa Barbara (3-0) and No.
7 Cal State Northridge (3-1) last week. He totaled 23 kills and a
.636 hitting percentage against UCSB then exploded with a career-high
35 kills to help UCI upset No. 7 Cal State Northridge. The 35 kills
is the most by an MPSF player this season and ranks ninth all-time in
the UCI match record books. It is the second most kills since rally
scoring began. On the week, the outside hitter averaged 8.3 kills and
a .576 hitting percentage.
