Locals win at SLC

The Roxy Beach 14-and-under girls’ volleyball team, based in Anaheim
but consisting of two players and a head coach from Laguna Beach, won
its division championship last weekend at the Junior Olympics at Salt
Lake City.
Roxy Beach is in its first year playing club volleyball.
The eight-member 14-and-under team is coached by Steve Obradovich
and includes players Piper Obradovich and Lexie Kahl of Laguna Beach.
Roxy Beach played 11 matches during the week-long tournament. The
squad won all 11 matches it played and won 22 of 26 games.
In addition to Steve Obradovich, Piper Obradovich and Kahl, the
Roxy Beach 14-and-Under team is composed of players Chelsea Brown of
Laguna Niguel; Falyn Fonoimoana of Redondo Beach; Mariah Jakosky of
Balboa; Stacey Hallam of Mission Viejo; Jessica Colberg and Katrina
Alaelua, both of Long Beach; and assistant coach James Felton of
Costa Mesa.
In youth water polo:
Laguna Beach Age Group Water Polo returns to action Monday with
three teams playing at Newport Beach High.
Two other Laguna Beach teams will play Wednesday, also at Newport
Beach High.
