VERNON LeROY GREGG
Vernon LeRoy Gregg, a retired Laguna Beach Fire captain, died June
29 at his Bluebird Canyon home. He was 79.
Gregg was born Sept. 25, 1925 in Anaheim and graduated from Laguna
Beach High School in 1943. He went on to serve in the U.S. Navy
during World War II, and then attended USC, graduating in 1950.
He was a captain of the Laguna Beach lifeguards in 1950, and then
joined the fire department, first serving as a volunteer for two
years.
He was also a builder and contractor for 50 years in the local
area.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping, fishing, diving and
surfing, especially in Baja California and Hawaii, which he visited
with friends and family.
He is survived by his brother, William “Wink” Gregg; sons Doug and
Keith Gregg; and granddaughter Jennifer.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in
his memory to the Surfrider Foundation and the Laguna Beach Fire
Department.
