The Pop Warner Football regular season ended the way it began for the Huntington Beach Jr. Midget Division Green Chargers: with an overwhelming performance.
The undefeated Green Chargers will take the division’s No. 1 seed into Saturday’s playoffs after they capped their regular season Saturday with a 30-0 shutout of the Santa Margarita Silver Mustangs.
Coach Kevin Smith’s squad has allowed just one touchdown this season. Steele Escobedo, Sam Doxakis, Trevor Borkowski, Darin Preece, Steven Tovatt, Tyler MacLeod and Brett Adams came up with several sacks in the game.
Borkowski, Coley, Peter Russo and Brodie Barton scored touchdowns for Huntington. The teams will go at it again at 1 p.m. Saturday, as top-seed Huntington faces the No. 8-seed Silver Mustangs in a first-round postseason game in Garden Grove.
In another Jr. Midget Division game Saturday:
Huntington 12, La Habra 0: The Gold Chargers earned their first victory of the season by blanking the Blue Lions.
Huntington’s first score came on a touchdown pass from Brandon Lien to Seth Seidel. On the ensuing kickoff, La Habra fumbled near its own end zone and the Gold Chargers’ Tyler Warren recovered the loose ball in the end zone for a touchdown.

Midget Division
Huntington 28, Santa Ana 0: An 80-yard return of the opening kickoff by Max Redfield got the Chargers rolling against the Monarchs.
On the Chargers’ first offensive series, Elijah Herrera took a first-down handoff and sprinted 70 yards to the end zone. Donald Rice also rushed for a touchdown.
Quarterback Zach Gates had a 50-yard touchdown run negated by a clipping penalty in the third quarter, but Rice went on to score on a 30-yard run to complete the scoring.
Huntington begins the playoffs Saturday.

Mighty Mite Division
Huntington 26, Montebello 0: Four players scored touchdowns, as the Chargers pounded the Sharks.
A strong rushing attack featured touchdowns by Justin Martinez, Cameron Gonzales, Shaun Colamonico and Nick Warren.
Defensively, Martinez came up with an interception and teammate Joe Flannery returned an interception 40 yards. Drake McKinish, Luke Hoggard and William Earthman also came up with some big stops.
Huntington squares off against Santa Margarita Saturday.

Junior Mighty Mite Division
Huntington 32, Lakewood 13: The Green Chargers jumped on the visiting Lancers early and never let up en route to the easy win.
Nicholas Upstill, Miles McCord and AJ Gatto scored touchdowns in the first half to stake Huntington to its early lead. Cameron Mase and Jared Etnyre scored touchdowns in the second half behind an offensive line led by Ryan Simmons. Logan Moses also led the offense.

Jr. Pee Wee Division
Anaheim 26, Huntington 18: Anaheim took a 13-0 first quarter lead and went on to defeat the Green Chargers in a first-round playoff game in Garden Grove Saturday.
Travis Burleson, Keith McCord and Hunter Simmons scored touchdowns for the locals, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the early deficit.
The Green Chargers face La Mirada on Saturday in Hawaiian Gardens.

JR. ALL-AMERICAN FOOTBALL
Huntington 27, Fountain Valley 0: Sean Strom scored on touchdown runs of 49 and 53 yards and Anthony Delatorre dashed 31 yards for a score and hooked up with Javier Sanchez on a 69-yard scoring pass as the Oilers handled the Barons in a Clinic Division game.
Bowen Blake, Michael Bala and Jett Gordon led an Oilers defense that gave up just one first down all game, caused three turnovers and notched its fifth shutout of the season.
The Oilers are now 6-1 on the season. Last week, they suffered their first loss of the season, 14-13, to Inglewood in a battle of undefeated teams.
Huntington finishes its regular season at 1 p.m. Saturday against the Corona Panthers at Huntington Beach High.

Pee Wee Division
Huntington 26, South Bay 6: The Chargers ended their home schedule in style by routing the Packers at Huntington Beach High.
The Oilers got untracked in the second quarter when quarterback Nolan Winks scored on a quarterback keeper behind an imposing offensive line. In the third quarter, Winks threw a pair of touchdown passes to receiver Trevor Diehl to increase the lead to 20-0.
Huntington’s final touchdown came when running back Grant Peugh punched it into the end zone after a couple of big runs to seal the victory. The Oilers close out their regular season Saturday at Garden Grove before heading into the postseason.

Future League
Huntington 38, South Bay 36: An interception return for a touchdown by Sam Rovano, followed by a successful two-point conversion, lifted the Oilers past the Packers.
South Bay had one last chance to come back, but Huntington’s defense, led by Nate O’Rourke, turned back the Packers in the final two minutes.
The win was the third of the season for the Oilers.
