College Roundup: Orange Coast baseball blanks Southwestern

Michael Ryhlick and Alex Shadid combined on the shutout in the Orange Coast College baseball team’s 3-0 win over Southwestern on Tuesday in a nonconference road game.
Ryhlick pitched seven shutout innings for OCC (5-6), allowing four hits and striking out four. Shadid (2-1) got the win in relief after pitching two innings.
David Morgan, Jordan Ku and Cary Arbolida each scored runs for the Pirates, and Arbolida had a run batted in.
OCC hosts College of the Desert on Thursday at 2 p.m.
University of San Diego 9, UC Irvine 1: Mike Peabody had a run-scoring double for the Anteaters in Tuesday’s nonconference game on the road.
Nathan Church and Connor McGuire also had hits for UC Irvine (1-3), which begins a three-game home series against Rice on Friday at 6 p.m.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Vanguard 3, The Master’s University 0: Kyle Anema had 14 kills for the host Lions in a 25-7,25-17,25-13 win on Tuesday in a Golden State Athletic Conference match.
Tanner Briggs had nine kills for Vanguard (7-3, 5-1 in conference), and Bryce Thompson dished out 36 assists.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Orange Coast 7, San Diego City 2: The Pirates improved to 4-3 with Tuesday’s nonconference road win.
