High School Roundup: CdM girls’ volleyball fals in Dave Mohs tourney semis

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Dave Mohs Tournament
Corona del Mar High finished tied for third after losing for the first time this season, falling to Corona Santiago in the Division 1 semifinals, 25-9, 14-25, 15-12 on Saturday.
Jessie Harris led the Sea Kings (7-1) with eight kills and Kendall Kipp had six kills.
CdM beat Long Beach Poly in the quarterfinals 25-17, 23-25, 15-11. Natalia Bruening led with 11 kills, Kipp had eight kills and Harris seven.
The Sea Kings began the day with a 25-18, 25-12 win over Villa Park. Bruening had eight kills and Sydney Alacano four.
CdM then opened the first round of the Division 1 bracket with a 25-14, 25-10 win over San Clemente.
Bruening led with eight kills, Harris had seven kills and Payton Carter contributed six digs.
The Sea Kings play at rival Newport Harbor in the Battle of the Bay Wednesday at approximately 6 p.m.

Newport Harbor High finished in 25th place after going 2-4 on Saturday.
San Juan Hills beat the Sailors, 25-18, 25-22. Peninsula scored a 26-24, 12-25, 15-11 win over Newport Harbor.
Mater Dei won 25-14, 26-24 over Newport.
The Sailors defeated Canyon, 29-27, 30-28 and took down Newberry Park 21-25, 27-25, 15-8.
Murrieta Valley defeated Newport Harbor 27-25, 25-16.

Laguna Hills Invitational
LAGUNA HILLS — Newport Harbor High’s Holly Clemence finished seventh on the three-mile course in 20 minutes, 35 seconds in the senior girls’ Division 2 race at Laguna Hills High Saturday.
In the freshman girls’ Division 2 race, Mia Matsunami finished sixth for the Sailors in 20:37 and Claire Bacon finished 22nd in 22:07.
In the senior boys’ Division 2 race, Sean Arnold finished 30th in 17:44. In the junior boys’ Division 2 race, Mark Field finished 16th in 16:45. Field was also 81st on the top 100 fastest boys’ times for the meet.
In the freshman boys’ Division 2 race, Michael Davey was fifth in 17:55.

El Dorado tournament
PLACENTIA — Estancia High lost twice and one once on Saturday.
Kyle Fitzgerald scored three goals and Cobi White added two for the Eagles (1-4) in their 16-7 loss to Redondo.
Jason Chesemore scored seven goals and Fitzgerald had two in Estancia’s 10-9 loss to Valencia.
Fitzgerald had five goals and Chesemore two to lead the Eagles to a 10-6 win over Tustin.
Goalie Eizik Leyva made 24 combined saves in the three games.
