Officials evacuated the city beach in Huntington Beach during the U.S. Open of Surfing late Tuesday afternoon after lightning strikes were reported in the area, police said. The beach has since reopened.
The closure occurred as strong thunderstorms brought heavy rainfall to parts of Southern California on Tuesday afternoon.
More storms are possible Wednesday, according to forecasters.
