This is, one could argue, a golden age of Chicago coaching. Well, maybe a silver age. For one of the few times in Chicago sports history, two people who led city teams to championships are still heading those franchises — and are in position to win more.
Joe Maddon and Joel Quenneville are arguably among Chicago’s best coaches or managers ever. Granted there’s Rick Renteria, Fred Hoiberg and John Fox, who have not yet accomplished much here, so the overall quality is weak. But other then stretches from 1906-1908 (Cubs’ Frank Chance, Sox’s Fielder Jones) or 1932-34 (Bears’ George Halas, Blackhawks’ Tom Gorman) or 1961-63 (Halas, Hawks’ Rudy Pilous), there’s never been two champion skippers working at the same time.
