Dodgers prospect Joc Pederson, already PCL’s top rookie, is named MVP

Will Joc Pederson’s trophy case overflow before he ever steps foot on a major-league field?

It’s been what you might call a productive triple-A season for Pederson, the Dodgers’ 22-year-old outfielder at Albuquerque.

Thursday he was named the Pacific Coast League’s most valuable player, this coming two days after he was named the league’s rookie of the year.

Pederson is expected to receive a call-up with the Dodgers after rosters can be expanded Sept. 1.

Pederson received over half the first-place votes from 16 managers and media representatives.

Ranked as the Dodgers’ top prospect entering the season by Baseball America, Pederson currently leads the PCL in home runs (33), on-base percentage (.434), runs (101), total bases (256) and walks (96). His .590 slugging percentage is second in the league. And his 96 walks and 101 runs scored are Isotopes single-season records.

Albuquerque’s regular season ends Monday.
