PHOENIX – There were audible gasps in Dodgers camp Friday morning as Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax was struck in the head by an Andre Ethier line drive.
Koufax, 78, was watching Ross Stripling warm up in the bullpen of one of the practice fields when Ethier lined a ball foul that hit the side of his head.
Koufax was cut but remained on his feet and laughed as he walked toward assistant trainer Nancy Patterson.
The training staff drove Koufax toward the minor-league side of the Dodgers complex.
Later, Koufax waved to fans as he was driven back across the complex.
