Girls’ basketball: Garfield wins City Division II title

Monica Garcia finished with 24 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists to lead Garfield to its first-ever City Section title with a 39-33 victory over Eagle Rock in the Division II final at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
The second-seeded Bulldogs (24-10) used an 8-0 run to take a 29-23 lead but Eagle Rock pulled to within 29-27 after three quarters. The game was tied 19-19 at halftime.
Christina Hilton and Ashley Bernal each scored 12 points for the fourth-seeded Eagles (19-10), who were playing in their third straight title game and defeated Garfield 60-51 in last year’s Division III final.
