Boys’ soccer: Birmingham advances to Division I semifinals

City Section soccer power El Camino Real has had enough of Aaron Yeverino and the Birmingham Patriots.
On Wednesday in a second round Division I playoff match, Yeverino scored the only goal on an assist from Alex Barrientos to enable Birmingham to defeat the Conquistadores, 1-0. It was the fourth time this season Birmingham (20-2-2) has beaten El Camino Real and it was the seventh goal against ECR for Yeverino, who has 30 goals on the season.
Goalie Gerson Mejicanos recorded his 12th shutout. Top-seeded Birmingham will play Locke in Friday’s semifinals. Locke won, 1-0. The other semifinal will match Palisades against Bell.
