Baseball: Chatsworth opens impressively behind pitchers Tommy Palomera and Josh Garcia

With two pitchers the caliber of seniors Tommy Palomera and Josh Garcia, Chatsworth is considered one of the favorites to win the City Section Division I baseball championship, and Saturday’s opening doubleheader sweep of Carson provided an early look at where the Chancellors stand.
In the first game, Palomera struck out 12 in a 9-0 victory over Carson. Andrew Renteria and Hunter Konecny-Pena each had two RBIs. In the second game, the Chancellors also won, 9-0, behind another shutout from Garcia, who struck out eight. Randy Mata had four hits.
Poly defeated Marshall, 5-1. Ruben Dominguez had two hits and two RBIs.
Roosevelt defeated Kennedy, 6-1. Kenny Gallegos threw a complete game, allowing two hits. Jose Castillo had three hits and Gabriel Jimenez added three RBIs.
Cleveland defeated Wilson, 9-0. Jack Fox threw five shutout innings, striking out eight. Gio Cheherlian had three RBIs.
South Gate defeated Hamilton, 3-2. San Fernando defeated San Pedro, 4-3.
Northridge Academy defeated Central City, 14-2. Andrew Lewis had a three-run double.
