Boys’ basketball: Kendall Small sends Mayfair into Redondo tournament semifinals
- Share via
When it comes to top transfer students for the 2013-14 school year, put down Kendall Small as one of the best. A year ago, he was the standout point guard at Ocean View as a sophomore. Now he’s the standout point guard at Lakewood Mayfair as a junior.
He scored 27 points on Tuesday to help Mayfair knock off No. 6-rated Compton, 75-66, in a quarterfinal game of the Redondo tournament. Small made four three-pointers. Mayfair will play St. John Bosco in Friday’s semifinals.
Compton led by as many as nine points in the second quarter but was limited after its best player, Isaiah Bailey, injured his lower back taking a charging foul late in the quarter. He didn’t play in the second half but said afterward he should be OK.
In a consolation game, Calabasas defeated Palos Verdes 79-49. Jeremy Lieberman and Larry Bush each scored 20 points.
