Cross country: El Camino Real has young coach with bright future

It’s not easy getting a full-time teaching and coaching job after graduating from college.

But 25-year-old Jun Reichl teaches a subject that everyone needs and wants _ science. And Woodland Hills El Camino Real was lucky enough to hire him as its cross country coach and a science teacher. He teaches in the school’s alternative education and intervention program.

Reichl used to compete for Royal High and UCLA.

“They put high expectations on me,” he said.

In his first season as head coach, Reichl could have some surprises in store during Saturday’s City Section cross country championships at Pierce College.

El Camino Real had the fastest boys’ time last week, though everyone was probably saving their best for Saturday. Santee, Granada Hills and Marshall should challenge the Conquistadores.

Reichl has already helped develop a promising sophomore, Ethan Estrada, who won his heat last week.

In the girls’ competition, it’s all going to be about Palisades and standout runner Marissa Williams. It’s only a question of how fast she runs and how far behind the second-place finisher will be.
