Football: Arleta to honor former Coach Jeff Engilman

Arleta is dedicating its football field to former Coach Jeff Engilman before Friday’s homecoming game against North Hollywood. The field will become Jeff Engilman Field.
“It’s a great honor,” said Engilman, who started the Arleta program in 2006 and retired in 2010.
Engilman is also the grand marshal for the homecoming parade, which means he will have to get into a car.
“I didn’t want to do that, but the principal said, ‘You got to get into the car,’” Engilman said.
The big surprise is that Engilman hasn’t coached in three years. Many predicted he’d return soon after his retirement.
“A lot of trips,” he said for the reason he hasn’t coached.
Arleta will bring in lights for the 7 p.m. homecoming game. The team is 6-0 and coming off a 62-14 win over Monroe in which Isaiah Gable scored five touchdowns.
