Football: Eastern League begins with Garfield-South Gate showdown
- Share via
The Eastern League championship could be decided in the league opener on Friday night matching Garfield (2-3) against South Gate (3-2) at South Gate.
Garfield has done its usual strategy of playing tough teams in nonleague games and not worrying about records. The Bulldogs have lost to Alemany, Banning, Crenshaw and Servite. They picked up a forfeit win over Alemany. Their only on the field victory is over Harvard-Westlake.
South Gate lost to Salesian last week after a nice win over San Fernando.
The Bulldogs are looking for more consistency out of their offense. There’s potential with junior quarterback Henry Polanco and sophomore running back Brandyn Jordan.
South Gate has always played Garfield tough. The Rams will try to get the ball into the hands of standout Jamaal Neal.
