Football: Let the debate begin on defensive backs
- Share via
There’s going to be a fierce debate this season on who ranks near the top among defensive backs in Southern California. That’s because several teams are loaded with quality defensive backs and colleges have been offering scholarships en masse.
Stanford has commitments from David Long of Loyola and Trejohn Butler of Etiwanda. Oregon has a commitment from Troy Dye of Norco. USC has commitments from C.J. Pollard of Gardena Serra and junior Thomas Graham from Rancho Cucamonga.
Cal has commitments from Traveon Beck of St. John Bosco and Camryn Bynum from Corona Centennial. Jack Jones of Long Beach Poly and junior Darnay Holmes of Calabasas can pick their schools. Brandon Burton of Gardena Serra is a key target for UCLA.
Then there are the outstanding secondaries loaded with college prospects at St. John Bosco, Narbonne, Loyola and Serra.
Servite has Keyon Riley. Los Alamitos has Darien Cornay and Dylan Laurent. Calabasas has sophomore Josh Madison. Crenshaw has Marquis Lawson. Garfield has Marquis Williams.
It goes on and on. The defensive back position ranks right with receivers in depth and talent.
