Football: San Fernando’s Alex Gonzalez might be comeback player of the year
San Fernando’s Alex Gonzalez has returned to the football field after missing most of the last two seasons with a knee injury.

Alex Gonzalez of San Fernando has to be a candidate for comeback player of the year.
As a freshman in 2013, he scored a touchdown in San Fernando’s 34-32 win over South Gate in the City Section Division II championship game.
As a sophomore in 2014, in the third game of the season, he suffered a torn ACL and torn MCL to his left knee. He never had surgery, thinking he’d be able to come back in 2015. But when the injury never fully healed, he underwent surgery and missed all of the 2015 season.
Finally healthy after missing most of two seasons, Gonzalez leads San Fernando (8-0) in tackles with 30 playing middle linebacker and has scored seven touchdowns playing primarily running back in goal-line situations.
“It’s great,” he said of playing again.
Asked how he felt being on the sideline for two seasons, Gonzalez said, “It was depressing.”
Asked what learned, Gonzalez said, “Don’t take anything for granted, because it can be taken away.”
San Fernando will play Sylmar in two weeks to determine the Valley Mission League championship.
