Football: South Gate is banned from City playoffs after five players declared ineligible
- Share via
The City Section announced on Monday that five varsity football players at South Gate were in violation of transfer rules, forcing the Rams to forfeit every game they participated in.
Since it is the second violation involving transfers in the past three years, South Gate has been “deemed ineligible” for this season’s Division 1 playoffs, Aguirre wrote in an email.
South Gate was 6-2 on the field and is expected to forfeit at least five of those victories.
The junior varsity team was found to have three ineligible players and will forfeit all games those players participated in.
South Gate can appeal the decision and plans to do so, Coach Jose Casagran said.
Last week, South Gate defeated South East, 47-41, with Jamaal Neal scoring four touchdowns and passing for another. The Rams held out the players in question and won despite being down to 20 players on the roster.
