Girls’ basketball: Chaminade opens with win over Oaks Christian

Defending Open Division champion Chaminade opened its girls’ basketball season on Monday night with a 55-40 win over Oaks Christian in the Palisades tournament.
Melissa Wright scored 20 points.
In other openers, Kayla Williams had 18 points in Palisades’ 71-23 win over Hueneme. Talia Taufaasau scored 12 points as Canyon Country Canyon defeated St. Anthony, 51-36.
Fairmont Prep defeated Marlborough, 65-27. Cierra Hall had 22 points.
The day two schedule on Tuesday: Agoura vs. Valencia, 4 p.m.; Alemany vs. La Canada, 5:30 p.m.; Ventura vs. Serra, 7 p.m.; Taft vs. Harvard-Westlake, 8:30 p.m.
On Wednesday, Fairmont Prep will play Chaminade at 5:30 p.m. in the featured game.
