Jonathan Quick says he’s OK after taking a shot in practice

Kings goalie Jonathan Quick fell forward to the ice and left practice Tuesday after taking a shot off his chest from teammate Kyle Clifford, but Quick said afterward he was fine.

Quick, winner of the 2012 Conn Smythe trophy given to the playoff MVP, reverted to his occasional knack for one-word answers when greeted by reporters at media day later Tuesday at Staples Center.

Reporter: “Hurt by that shot at practice?”

Quick: “Nope.”

Reporter: “[You’re] 100%?”

Quick: “Yep.”

Reporter: “No worries?”

Quick: Head nod, no.

Quick wouldn’t detail precisely where he was struck, saying, “somewhere between my head and my knees.”

He said his exit afterward was not a big deal. “I was on my way out anyway,” he said. “I had already been out there a good 40 minutes.”

Clifford said the incident, captured on video, was “nothing, everything’s back [to normal], all good.”

The forward was asked if he had “a bit extra” on the shot that knocked down Quick.

“Yeah, just getting him ready,” Clifford said, tongue-in-cheek.

Nothing too serious?

“Yeah, he’s going to live,” said Clifford, agreeing with the suggestion Quick would probably retaliate. “One of these days — when it’s all wrapped up.”
