Update: The Kings gave up five goals in their season opener Oct. 7 and managed to go until Dec. 14 before it happened again. And now? They’ve given up five goals in three of their last four games, including consecutive losses to Toronto and San Jose. The Kings are 0-2 against the Coyotes this season with both losses coming at Staples Center. On Wednesday, the Kings assigned rookie forward Michael Mersch to their American Hockey League affiliate in Ontario but that was more of a salary-cap maneuver. Expectations are that he will be recalled by the Kings on Saturday.
