Update: The Sparks lost Game 1 of their best-of-three Western Conference semifinal series against the Mercury, 75-72, Friday evening. If the Sparks lose Game 2 in Los Angeles, they will be eliminated. Game 3, if necessary, will be Tuesday in Phoenix. Diana Taurasi led the top-seeded Mercury with 34 points on 10-for-15 shooting, including four consecutive free throws in the final 40 seconds. Candace Parker had 22 points and seven rebounds for the fourth-seeded Sparks. Phoenix has eliminated the Sparks from the playoffs twice in the last five seasons, including last year when the Mercury won Game 3 of the first round, 78-77.
