Loyola Marymount’s season ends with 85-54 loss to Santa Clara

Jared Brownridge and Brandon Clark each scored 19 points Friday night, and Santa Clara rolled to an 85-54 victory over Loyola Marymount in the opening round of the West Coast Conference men’s basketball tournament in Las Vegas.
Evan Payne scored a game-high 29 points and Ayodeji Egbeyemi had 14 for Loyola, but their teammates totaled only 11 as the Lions ended their season with an 8-23 record.
Jarvis Pugh had 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Broncos (14-17), who will face Brigham Young in a quarterfinal Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
San Francisco 62, Pacific 58: Kruize Pinkins and Tim Derksen scored 14 points apiece and the eighth-seeded Dons (14-17) held off the ninth-seeded Tigers (12-19).
Devin Watson added 13 points and Mark Tollefson 10 for San Francisco, which faces seventh-ranked and top-seeded Gonzaga on Saturday night.
USF was ahead, 55-47, after a Derksen layup with 4:52 to play, the last field goal for the Dons, who hit seven of 12 free throws from there.
Dulani Robinson’s three-pointer pulled Pacific to within 60-58 with 23 seconds left but Derksen made two free throws three seconds later. Then the Tigers missed a layup, a three-point attempt, and one last shot after USF missed two free throws with 3 seconds left.
T.J. Wallace had 14 points and David Taylor scored 13 for Pacific (12-19), which lost by 10 to USF in the regular-season finale and went 0-3 against the Dons this season.
In the WCC women’s tournament:
Gonzaga 70, Loyola Marymount 50: Sunny Greinacher and Shelby Sheslek each scored 14 points and the top-seeded Bulldogs (24-6) advanced to the semifinals, breaking the game open with a 10-0 run that started with about eight minutes to play. Sophie Taylor scored 16 points for the Lions (7-24).
San Diego 51, Santa Clara 42: Katelyn McDaniel had 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists to lead the Toreros (24-5). Nici Gilday had 22 points for the Broncos (11-18), more than half the team’s total.
