Boys

Division I

Santa Ana Mater Dei (33-2) vs. Sacramento Sheldon (29-5), 8 p.m. The Monarchs are seeking a record ninth state title under Coach Gary McKnight. This is a team built to do well in an arena setting. The Monarchs’ trio of Katin Reinhardt, Xavier Johnson and Stanley Johnson can use their versatility to create lots of matchup problems. Sheldon rallied from 17 points down to win its regional final. Among its players is 6-4, 240-pound Nate Iese, a UCLA football signee, at defensive end.

Division III

Mission Hills Alemany (32-4) vs. San Francisco Sacred Heart Cathedral (28-5), 2:45 p.m. The Warriors pulled off the great escape by winning the regional final on a basket with less than two seconds left. Their first trip to Sacramento will be a chance to show off two future college players in Nevada-bound Marqueze Coleman, who thrives in the transition game, and senior point guard Max Guercy, a court leader who has been playing with MVP-like fervor. Sacred Heart is led by 6-5 Josh Fox, who had 21 points and 13 rebounds in the Northern Regional final.

Division V

Sun Valley Village Christian (32-3) vs. Alameda St. Joseph Notre Dame (29-4), 11:15 a.m. The Crusaders, playing in their first state final, got hot in the state playoffs behind 6-7 Marquis Salmon and sophomore point guard Bryan Alberts. If their young players can handle the arena setting, defending champion St. Joseph could fall. Center Temidayo Yussef, a 6-6 sophomore, has been a force inside for St. Joseph.

Girls

Division I

Santa Ana Mater Dei (33-3) vs. Berkeley (29-2), 6 p.m. In a rematch of last year’s final, Berkeley will try to use its quickness to stay with Mater Dei, but Nirra Fields, the UCLA-bound Gatorade state player of the year, has been exceptional in the postseason for Mater Dei. The combination of Fields and USC-bound Jordan Adams gives Mater Dei the best guard duo in the state. Berkeley relies on Arizona State-bound Elisha Davis, a 5-8 guard.

Division III

Laguna Hills (26-8) vs. Oakland Bishop O’Dowd (29-3), 1 p.m. Bishop O’Dowd’s 6-4 junior center Oderah Chidom presents a tall challenge for the Hawks. She scored 24 points and had 15 rebounds in the regional finals, where her team had a 50-24 edge in rebounding. But Laguna Hills has its own weapons in 6-0 Celia Marfone and 6-2 Anna Mumm.

Division V

San Luis Obispo Mission Prep (32-1) vs. Stockton Brookside Christian (29-4), 9:30 a.m. Senior guards Jenna Dunbar and Bri Harvey are each averaging 14.4 points for Mission Prep. Tiara Tucker, a 5-6 sophomore guard, is averaging above 20 points a game for Brookside.
