Sam Gordon, a 9-year-old girl from the Salt Lake City area, is the newest star on YouTube, where the above video clip features some of her amazing touchdown runs against boys in the Ute Conference youth football league.
“When she was about 3 or 4 years old and we would play soccer out in the yard with my older son … and they’d try to be a little bit rough with her and even intentionally try to kick the ball at her and she wouldn’t be fazed and would keep getting up,” her father, Brent, told “Good Morning America.” “I kind of had an idea that she’s got an aggressive mentality back then.”
Gordon isn’t faster or bigger than her counterparts, but in amassing more than 1,900 yards rushing and 35 touchdowns in the all-rushing league, it’s obvious that she has a Jim Brown quality to her game. It’s tough to knock her to the ground. She takes some big hits, too. She also runs very upright, like Eric Dickerson.
Yet Gordon also has a Barry Sanders quality to her runs, able to quickly stop to either avoid or minimize contact and then get back to full speed before the next wave of defenders can arrive or make a clean tackle. She also finds the seams in the defense.
“Most of the times it’s just really fun to be the one scoring the touchdowns rather than the boys,” Sam said.
She also plays defense and is one of the team leaders with 65 tackles. Yes, Sam Gordon can do it all.
