Jerry Jones has ‘no question’ Cowboys will be improved

The Dallas Cowboys have a new play-caller, a new defensive coordinator and a familiar refrain from owner Jerry Jones.
“We are a better team, no question in my mind, than we were at this same time last year,” said Jones, according to Calvin Watkins of ESPN.com. The Cowboys open training camp this weekend in Oxnard, with players checking in Friday and practicing for the first time Sunday. “We’ve got a lot of work to do.”
Overseeing the defense is Monte Kiffin, who won a Super Bowl in Tampa Bay as Buccaneers defensive coordinator but later struggled in that role at USC, as a member of his son Lane’s staff.
Coach Jason Garrett will no longer be the play-caller for the Cowboys, a responsibility he has held since 2007. This season, the reins have been handed to offensive coordinator Bill Callahan, who last called plays in 2003, his final season as head coach of the Oakland Raiders.
“We feel like we’ve got the right kind of guys on our staff and we feel like we got the right type of guys on our football team.” Jones said. “It’s time to go to work.”
