The Detroit Pistons have hired Maurice Cheeks, according to ESPN, giving the former All-Star point guard his third head coaching job.
Cheeks reportedly beat out Nate McMillan, the other co-finalist to succeed Lawrence Frank, who had gone 54-94 in two seasons.
Cheeks had been an assistant under Scott Brooks in Oklahoma City the last four seasons and previously was the head coach with Philadelphia and Portland, compiling a 284-286 record that included three first-round playoff appearances in his six full seasons.
Other candidates had included former Atlanta Coach Larry Drew, who was subsequently hired by Milwaukee, former Phoenix interim Coach Lindsey Hunter, San Antonio assistant Mike Budenholzer, who was hired by Atlanta, and New York assistant Darrell Walker.
