The Kansas City Royals put third baseman Mike Moustakas on the 15-day disabled list Saturday because of a fractured left thumb, another setback for the team’s sputtering offense.
Moustakas, a 2007 first-round draft pick from Chatsworth High, originally was hurt April 26 while tagging out the Angels’ C.J. Cron and attempted to play through the injury until Wednesday, when he said he could no longer grip a bat. He is batting .258 with a team-high seven home runs and 13 runs batted in.
Rangers add Stubbs
Texas signed free-agent outfielder Drew Stubbs and moved Josh Hamilton to the 60-day DL. Stubbs was released by the Rangers in late March and again by Atlanta on Tuesday. Hamilton is still rehabbing from off-season surgery on his left knee.
Etc.
Cincinnati optioned struggling reliever J.J. Hoover to triple-A Louisville and promoted right-handers Drew Hayes and Steve Delabar. Hoover, who began the year as the Reds closer, compiled a 14.34 ERA and allowed six home runs in 10 2/3 innings. . . . Minnesota put shortstop Eduardo Escobar on the DL with a groin strain and demoted left-hander Tommy Milone to triple-A Rochester.
