The Cavaliers have signed free-agent forward Austin Daye to a one-year deal, Yahoo Sports reported.
Daye, 6-foot-11, will serve as a training camp body with a chance to make the club as a reserve big man. He was the 15th overall pick in 2009 by the Detroit Pistons. Now 27, Daye appeared in a total of 34 games last season for the San Antonio Spurs and Atlanta Hawks, averaging 3.8 points and 2.2 rebounds.
Additionally, Brandon Weems has been hired by the Cavs as a scout, a league source confirmed. The former St. Vincent-St. Mary standout, and former teammate of LeBron James, will focus primarily on college players.
Weems joins the Cavs after serving as a college coach most recently with Oakland (Mich.) University and previously at Drexel. He also helped out John Calipari at the University of Kentucky.
