The Ducks on Sunday announced the signing of free-agent forward Chris Stewart to a one-year contract, an acquisition that provides some complementary scoring promise.
Stewart, 27, will earn $1.7 million in the one-year deal, according to a hockey official who asked not to be named when discussing team finances.
Last season, the former first-round pick scored 14 goals and 36 points in 81 games with the Buffalo Sabres and Minnesota Wild.
The 6-feet-2, 231-pound Stewart had a plus-four rating in 20 games with the Wild, appearing in his fourth postseason.
Stewart also played with Colorado and St. Louis, and has shown the ability to play physical, with 535 penalty minutes in 463 career NHL games.
