UCLA football: Bruins coach may need confession for recruiting coups

Cheer, cheer from old Notre Dame?
Not likely.
A year ago, UCLA made off with defensive end Eddie Vanderdoes, who had originally signed a letter of intent with Notre Dame. This year, the Bruins landed defensive end Matt Dickerson, who had committed to Notre Dame last summer.
The common link? UCLA defensive line coach Angus McClure.
McClure developed a relationship with Vanderdoes during the recruiting process, and was there waiting when Vanderdoes was released from his letter of intent. McClure was the point man in recruiting Dickerson.
Which led Coach Jim Mora to say during UCLA’s signing day celebration, “The Pope called this week. He wants to talk with Angus.”
Sorry, pontiff, McClure is of Scottish descent, not Irish.
