Update: Colorado had a discouraging trip to Arizona last week. The Buffaloes led by as many as 17 points, 16 in the second half, before losing to third-ranked Arizona in part on a controversial call on a Colorado three-point shot at the buzzer in regulation. Colorado Coach Tad Boyle said he was “sick to his stomach” when Sabatina Chen’s banked three-pointer eventually was called no good. Colorado led, 13-2, against Arizona State, but eventually lost that game too, making for a discouraging start to its defense of the Pac-12 Conference tournament title. The Trojans, after a sloppy but uplifting 71-69 win over Stanford in their Pac-12 opener, missed 10 free throws, had their second-leading scorer (transfer J.T. Terrell) benched for the game because of what Coach Kevin O’Neill said were too many bad shots and turnovers and took an unnecessary loss to California. O’Neill said it’s imperative that teams win two at home and at least split on the road, so the Trojans are already in a hole.
