Deal: Dine-and-sleep offer in Victoria, Canada, lets you indulge -- without busting your wallet

Pack your passport and appetite to take advantage of this eat-and-sleep deal in Victoria, British Columbia. It’s a chance to explore the cuisine of the Canadian city — from sushi to Greek to vegetarian and Chinese — and save.
The deal: Victoria is dishing up dinner and discounted rooms during its annual Dine Around and Stay in Town.
For a limited time, restaurants offer fixed-price meals and hotels follow suit with rooms rates from $79 to $129 Canadian a night. That’s about $56 to $93 in U.S. dollars
You can check out more than 60 restaurants and their menus by price: $20, $30, $40 or $50. Remember, that’s Canadian dollars; the exchange rate is good right now too (about $1.37 Canadian to $1 U.S). So the menu prices range from a little over $14 to about $36 in U.S. dollars.
Two examples from the $30 Canadian options: You can dig into the signature Grilled Brio Steak at Café Brio, or sample the popular rutabaga linguine at the health-minded Nourish Kitchen & Cafe.
To stay in the city while you are restaurant-hopping, 11 hotels offer discounts on rooms, including the Chateau Victoria Hotel & Suites and Marriott Victoria Inner Harbour — both available starting at $129 Canadian a night.
When: The offer is good Feb. 19 through March 6.
Tested: I tested the Dine Around room deals and discovered you must click the orange price box on the right of each listing (rather than “Book Now”) to land on the deal page.
I chose Hotel Zed because it claims to be “ridiculously fun.” I had to call, however, to get the promotion code.
Chris Knight, Hotel Zed’s general manager, said the code is “dine.” I found a room for $99 Canadian that comes with two queen beds. An upgrade to a king-sized bed costs $10 Canadian more per night.
I found availability for a two-night stay from Feb. 19 to 21 for a total of $227 Canadian, including tax. Knight said the hotel has 62 rooms and about two-thirds were still available for Dine Around dates.
And the ridiculously fun part? The hotel offers free local transport in two classic Volkswagen buses, circa 1963 and 1967. (Knight said German visitors who work at the VW factory in Germany once came to stay to ride around in the vintage vans.)
Caveat: You may need to call or email to book the Dine Around room deal at some hotels if the online booking pages aren’t working. For example, Spinnakers Guesthouse wants you to call its toll-free number to book the deal.
