Las Vegas hotel rooms for New Year’s for less than $200 a night are still available

You can still get a last-minute hotel on the Las Vegas Strip for New Year’s Eve, maybe for even less than you think.
As of Thursday morning, Circus Circus, Excalibur and Travelodge Las Vegas Strip had rooms for Saturday and Sunday nights for $199 a night.
That means a two-night stay at the Travelodge, which has an ideal location just south of Planet Hollywood, would run $445 and change, including taxes and fees.
Expect Circus Circus and Excalibur to top $500, thanks to their resort fees.
The more upscale Mirage has rooms starting at $230 a night for a two-day stay, plus taxes and fees.
As of Thursday, here are other rates, per night, quoted as part of a two-day stay. These rates do not include taxes and fees:
Aria: $499
Caesars Palace: $439
Luxor: $209
Venetian: $373
Wynn: $311
I found similar and often identical rates at the hotels’ websites and at booking engines such as Expedia and Vegas.com.
Note that hotel rates in Las Vegas fluctuate, particularly as holiday weekends approach, and that these rates may disappear as the weekend grows nearer.
Citywide occupancy is expected to drop to 97.5% this year, the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority projects. The expected 330,000 visitors would be a decrease of about 4,000 from last year.
National Guard troops will join Las Vegas police officers along the Strip on Sunday evening. Drones also will be deployed.
